Financial Aid Process

There are several forms of financial aid available for students in the program. They include student loans, tuition discounts, a scholarship, and assistantships. Students can apply for student loans through the Student Financial Aid Office. Students can apply for tuition discounts following the procedure outlined below with the Director of the Program. There is a program scholarship that is awarded each year to one student at the discretion of the faculty. Students can apply for available assistantships through the employer offering an assistantship. This is most feasible close to when you are locally available and would like to begin an assistantship. There are no assistantships guaranteed to students in the program, but several students have paid employment at the University of Miami each year.

Requesting Tuition Discounts

The summary of the request process for tuition discounts to applicants is as follows:

  1. The applicant initiates the tuition waiver request with the Program Director based on the student’s financial hardship.
  2. To assess eligibility for assistance, the Program Director will meet with the applicant to:
    1. Discuss the nature of their financial hardship.
    2. Determine whether the student is financially independent or dependent on someone else.
    3. Ascertain the student’s current employment.
    4. Request the applicant’s or responsible other’s previous tax documents or FAFSA and evaluate their financial situation.
  3. After reviewing these documents, the Program Director communicates with the applicant about the appropriate financial aid.
  4. The applicant then makes a decision about admission with the financial aid offered.
