At this time, the University of Miami has regional accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) which covers the Master’s in Counseling program. The UM Masters in Counseling program is not accredited by CACREP, MPCAC, or an equivalent accrediting body. We have submitted the required documents to begin the accreditation process with MPCAC, and although we are hopeful that we will receive accreditation prior to July 1, 2025, please be advised that there are no guarantees that we will ultimately achieve accreditation.
Accreditation Update
We are pleased to provide an update on the program’s accreditation status:
On August 28th, the counseling program successfully submitted its revised documentation to the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC) for their review.
We will know the outcome in the coming months and remain optimistic about a favorable result.
This submission marks a significant step toward accreditation for the Counseling Mental Health (MHC) program. While accreditation is not guaranteed, the path forward appears promising.
Please be aware that the ability to apply for a Mental Health Counseling license in the state of Florida depends on the MHC program achieving accreditation before July 2025. We believe we are on track to meet this deadline but cannot provide absolute assurance at this time.
For any questions or concerns, please contact the Program Director, Dr. Guerda Nicolas.
