Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination (CPCE) Requirement

Passing the CPCE is required for all students. Student must pass the CPCE with a score of 95 or better. This exam serves as the comprehensive examination for the program. You will receive information about this exam in EPS 682 Practicum in Counseling course.

Student Steps for CPCE Registration

If you are a first-year student, you have to take your core courses before registering to take the exam.

  1. Create your Credentialing Gateway Account using instructions attached in the PDF below (1st Step for Students without an Existing Credentialing Gateway Account):

*If you have an existing credentialing gateway account, it is not necessary for you to create a new one. You can simply log into your existing account and select the Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination (CPCE) from the applications tab.

  1. Log into your newly created or existing credentialing gateway account and use the instructions attached in the PDF below:

2nd Step for Students who Require Accommodations

  1. Upon receipt of the authorization to test email, you will receive Pearson Vue instructions from your university program coordinator so you can create your Pearson Vue account, schedule an appointment, and pay the exam fee.

For those requiring CPCE Accommodations

Next steps After Completing the Exam:

  1. Upload PDF of CPCE score report (with name and photo included) for each CPCE taken, with one CPCE score report reflecting a Total Score of 95 or above into your Box Folder. You will be given access to your Box folder shortly.
