The Latino Mental Health Professional Development Training (LMHPDT) is a virtual training program in Latino mental health for those interested in working with Latino populations. This program is offered during the summer and can be acquired during enrollment in the master's program in counseling.

The overall goals of this program are to acquire the most up-to-date information about Latino mental health and to develop clinical skills in conducting assessment, therapy, and counseling with Latino clients. Students will learn about cultural, social, and historical roots of Latine psychology, clinical conceptualization of Latino mental health issues and clinical presentations from a culturally sensitive approach, critical approaches to psychological assessment of Latino clients, up to date information about empirically validated interventions for mental disorders, and Spanish language skills pertaining to clinical work.

LMHPDT students will benefit from:

  • Classes mostly taught in Spanish

Required Coursework

This Training requires previous graduate training. It can be acquired after graduation from the Masters Program in Counseling or can be integrated into the Doctoral Program in Counseling Psychology. It can be completed in addition to or after completion of a degree program in counseling, psychology or a related field.
